Containment booms, skimmers, storage tanks, absorbents and personal protection kits
Over the period 2015-16, the national Algerian port authority organisation, GIC-EP, acquired a number of containerised oil spill response packages manufactured by Markleen to protect seven of its major ports.
More than half of goods going through Algerian ports are hydrocarbons, making the need for adequate oil spill protection an imperative.
The ports which received Markleen equipment packages were Annaba, Arzew, Ghazaouet, Mostaganem, Oran, Skikda and Ténès.
The equipment packages consisted of both inflatable and solid floatation oil spill containment booms, hydraulic skimmer sets, temporary oil storage tanks, sorbents and personal protection equipment, as well as training for Algerian port personnel, both at Markleen’s manufacturing facility and on site in Algeria.
